Culinary Events to Deepen Cultural Understanding
Food and Culture
The Mustard Table is a culinary experience concept that showcases the diversity of Indian cuisine through unique dining events and cooking workshops.
In our culinary concept you also get to discover the influence of cuisines of the different foreign settlements in India and how Indian food has evolved as a result.
Why ‘The Mustard Table’? Mustard seeds are commonly used in Indian cooking, and mustard oil is a distinct ingredient of Bengali cuisine, the food of the roots of founder Paushali. ‘Table’ signifies the gathering together of friends and family around a table filled with food and conversations! ‘The Mustard Table’ is therefore about gathering friends and family over good food, investing the time to appreciate the ingredients, and making memories together. Join us we introduce the diversity of Indian cuisine though food stories, dining experiences and cooking classes.
I conduct culinary consulting and workshops based out of Haus der Schoenen Dinge (“House of Beautiful Things”), a creative community in the greater Düsseldorf area.
I organise bigger events such as company team building events in Kochwerkstatt Düsseldorf.

COMMUNICATING CULTURE THROUGH FOOD
Welcome to our new initiative Food & Culture on “Communicating Culture through Food”.
We believe food is a powerful way of communicating one’s culture and helps in breaking barriers between people of different nations.
Food goes beyond satisfying hunger cravings and nourishing one’s body. It tells us stories and defines culture and traditions. When we look at Indian cuisine, for example, the way we cook and share dishes of our home country of The Mustard Table, we try to communicate the incredible diversity of the country, India. We try to share information about our culture and the people….and in doing so, not only does food act as a resource of cultural knowledge about the nation India, but also gives non-Indians a chance to savour regional delicacies!
Food is a form of communication because of its direct linkage to culture, traditions, religion and rituals. Come and discover many different countries, their cultures and their people through our new series on “Communicating Culture through Food”.
Upcoming events will feature dinners and workshops on the following cultures:
India
Israel
Turkey
Iran
Italy
Spain
